I agree. ARR's Tamil pronounciation is also bit rusty often. But in Tamil one can get away with that as there is a pure tamil and colloquial tamil. Pure Tamil is rarely used. However I sometimes like the imperfection in diction ARR uses effectively with many singers, it adds to the style of music.
