James,

the Midtier documentation states:

pg. 17 - Before you install the mid tier, install the following components.
(See the
preinstallation considerations [if any] for these components in the sections
that follow.)
- Java Software Developer’s Kit (SDK), which is available from the
appropriate third-party vendor’s site.
Install the Java SDK before you install the web server.

pg. 18 - Java Server Pages (JSP) engine (Optional)
If you are not using ServletExec 5.0, which is bundled with the mid tier
installation, you must install and enable your supported JSP engine before
you install the mid tier.

The Tomcat whitepaper also states that you need the SDK. I don't think JRE
is sufficient.

I was going to use Tomcat since it has a smaller footprint than IIS or even
Apache.

I believe I still need a webserver, even if I install the ServletEngine
from Remedy.

After uninstalling Midtier, Tomcat and JDK and reinstalling them, I am now
back to where I was yesterday.

Tomcat is running and showing the correct Java version. I can get to the
Midtier configuration tool and make changes, but I still cannot login to
Midtier as a user.

ARERR [623] Authentication failed.

This happens with both Demo which has a static password as well as any
other user who is external authentication via AREA LDAP. It works fine from
the client.

I tried with both Authetication Server blank and with the name of my ARS
server and get the same error.

Any suggestions ?

Rgds,

Chris
