Brad, We are using MongoDB 2.6.8, Elasticsearch 1.4.2 and River 2.0.5 which are versions supported by BMC.
If I remember right these are the versions that get installed when the latest SmartIT is installed with the bundled MongoDB even though ES & River aren‘t used in this case. I didn’t find the BMC guides too helpful (though they may have been updated since I last looked) but with help from the MongoDB and ES online resources and BMC support validating my configurations I finally got three MongoDB servers clustered each with ES installed on them also in a cluster. We’re in production with four SmartIT servers pointing at these clusters and all seems to be OK at the moment (though the system usage is low at the moment). Good luck! Will also drop a email to BMC Support so that it is on record with them. There is a version of Pentaho released with 9.0 that, as I understand it, is about 3 years old, and 9.0 just came out....so, if BMC states that you need to use a specific version, that's the version I would use....and contact BMC and petition them to upgrade the versions they are using as service packs/versions come out. For the mongodb setup, I used the version as stated by BMC which is mongodb 2.6.8 as the later version are not supported. I am now planning on installing elastisearch on the secondary mongodb servers and they have stated that one needs to use 0.90.10 for elastisearch as, like mongodb, the other version are not supported. My question / concern is - if you look at the latest version of mongodb (which is 3.0.5) and elastisearch (which is 1.7.1) there are alot of improvements, enhancements and bug fixes. Should i take a chance and run the latest mongodb and elastic search versions ? I cannot believe that BMC want us to stay on the older versions which exposes us to potential bugs or less features than the newer versions. I have to make sure that the MYIT environment is performing optimally so that our end users love using it. What are your guys thoughts? Have you guys stuck to the versions stated in the installation documentation ? or have you managed to get the older versions running? Also, does anyone know how BMC plans to keep up to date with these third party products and their releases so that MYIT can benefit from it?
