Ditto.

I was trying to convince my prior employers management to start rolling out
the 6.3 client as soon as possible, to ease the application migration. As I
said earlier, I had a few major users of our apps running the 6.3 client
against our 5.1.1 server, and before I left, I'd done a little bit of work
trialling the v7 client against the 5.1.1 and 6.3 servers. My only issue
with the 7 client was the sign-on screen looked plain bizarre.

As it turns out, the work I did on 6.3 was dropped, and they're still
"looking into" v7, with no signs of any movement on the migration. And they
started "looking into" v7 as soon as it made an appearance on the shelves.

One thing that you have to be careful on is the admin tool - you absolutely
have to use the right version for the server you're working on. I got ever
so slightly bitten when I was working on both 5.1.1 (live) and 6.3 (dev)
servers.

** As have I. If my client can't perform certain functions because they
don't yet exist on the server version, that's probably not a problem, since
I'm not supposed to have that functionality anyway. If my server has
functionality my client can't process, that's a potential problem.

I always recommend upgrading client before server, for that and other
reasons.
