Thanks for the advice everyone. This is something we don't plan on doing, but if worst came to worst, I would like to know if the client would work.

Thanks

There was an issue when going from <= 5.0 client/server combos to > 5.0 client/server, because a few of the APIs got updated in 5.0.1, and some things like Groups were stored and referenced slightly differently. Apart from that, the advice is sound. If both are at 5.1.2 or above (and if not, WHY not?), upgrade the clients before the server if the rollout cannot be better coordinated. I know that using a 5.x user tool against a 6.x server will cause
issues with passwords. It seems that when a password field is set
it isn't decoded properly, so the next time the user record is
saved, the new, unknown password is saved to the record. Not sure
if this is replicated in 7.x but I'd assume so.

I wanted to know for a lot of the reasons Robert mentioned. I always
thought it was better to use an older client against a new server
    (5.1.2
client against 6.3 server) not vice versa. Is this not true?

    Thanks
