Thank you, Matt, for a reminder of lesson #1 of an ITSM implementation: It
is NOT an upgrade - it is a migration to a completely new system that bears
little resemblance to prior versions.

I spent 3 months "learning" via documentation, WBTs and took the service
desk and change management 7.x admin class. After that I spent 6 months
working with 4 others (I did app admin, two on the server and one doing
development) and we are putting our new ITSM into production in 3 weeks.

The best advice is to research as much as possible. Also, you're very
brave to claim an upgrade – everyone I've known has only done an
implementation!

We are starting to plan our upgrade from 6.3 to 7.x. (as well
corresponding
ARS and CMDB upgrades, and, to make things interesting, a move from Oracle

db to SQL).

I know there are a lot of posts here with questions/answers/advice. Was
wondering if anyone had suggestion on how best to peruse those?

And/or I am also looking at BMC support site and have found some webcasts
as well as WBT's that look interesting, so if there any suggestions on
other good information on that site, that would be welcome.

One thing we are trying to determine sooner than later is whether we will
need consultant assistance with this or if we can do most on own (1 admin
with 2 yrs of experience, 1 new one).

Thank you,

Julie
