Since you didn't tell us what version Remedy, I'll describe it in
general terms for 6.3 and above (With version 7.1.0 you can use the new
Service filters and may not need a separate form). Again this is off
the top of my head...
Create a new form to hold the server commands. Put at least 2 fields on
it: "Command" and "Result" (Result should be a 0 length text field,
Command should be large enough to hold the command string). I also
change the status to be New, In Process, Completed, Delete. Form should
NOT be visible to normal users (have Hidden permissions).
Create a Filter on the new form on Submit and Modify that fires if
Status = In Process. The Filter's actions will be:
Set Fields 1: Set Result = $PROCESS$ $Command$
Set Fields 2: Set Status = Completed
Your button Active Link would then do the following:
Push: To server commands form
Status = In Process
Command = "PING " + $Machine Name+$
Set Fields from server commands form where Request ID = $LASTID$
Set some large Display Only field = Result
Display the Result to the user (either a message or show the user the
Display Only field)
You can then have the Active Link delete the server commands record or
an escalation go thru all completed records (probably more than 1 hour
old) and delete them.

Subject: Re: run process activelink on midtier
I don't have ldap integration. How do I convert it to run the vbscript
on the server? Let's say I have a simple run process command of doing a
ping on a computer name. Basically I have an active link on a button
that will do - PING $Machine Name+$ and don't really need to return
result from it since you can see it from the command prompt window if
the machine is reachable. Also, I have another activelink that calls a
program we use to remote into the machine and I use the command line to
run the software... Is this do-able on mid-tier? Thanks again

Off the top of my head I can think of a couple of ways...
1. Convert your code to run the vbscript on the server (You
could change your code to push to a temporary form record, use a filter
on submit to run the script, and then query the form for the result).
2. Instead of using a vbscript, If you have ldap integration,
create a ardbcldap vendor form and query that to get the Active
Directory info (no vbscript needed).

Subject: run process activelink on midtier
I need your help. I have a button where a tech can click on it
and it will do a run process active link that calls a vbscript that will
check if the customers domain account is locked out or disabled. This
works great on the User tool but not on mid tier since it's not
supported. Any suggestions on how I can run a command line active link
on midtier? Is there any workaround? Thanks
