James,
This is strange. If I read this right you are saying that Remedy User
Tool can connect from client desktops but the NetCool "client" cannot connect
to Remedy?
My first question would be this: By "no firewalls are enabled" do you
mean between the NetCool server and the Remedy server or on the new Remedy
server itself? The reason I ask is that some flavors of Linux come with a
firewall OOB and it may be enabled. If you are unsure, see if there is an
iptables or ipchains service on the Linux server and stop them (also set them
to not run at startup. Let us know what flavor of Linux it is as
well...assuming RedHat).
Next question: Is the NetCool server on the same network as the AR
server? Are the clients on the same network as either one?
Also, if clients can connect that would tend to indicate something
wrong on the NetCool side or between NetCool and AR. Does NetCool have
connection logs you can look at? Maybe the answer is in there. If you find
something you can always post it here and see if anyone has any ideas.
One last thing: I assume NetCool is using an AR User account. Maybe
turn on user logging on the server, tail the logs (tail -f <logname>) and then
attempt to log in with NetCool and see what the AR log says. This would help
you verify the credentials if you see a login failed message.

Subject: Port issues with Netcool Gateway connecting to ARS 7.1
We just upgraded our server from Win32/ARS 6.x to Linux/ARS 7.1. We also
use Netcool and I'm having trouble getting Netcool's Remedy Gateway to
connect to the new server. Couple questions:
We're running ARS on port 9901. Clients connect fine and I can see in a
netstat -a that it's listening, but nmap from another machine does not
see the port 9901 open. I assume it's a TCP port.
No firewalls are enabled.
Netcool support also wants me to telnet to the server using port 9901
and verify the credentials to login. I do not get a response trying to
telnet to the port.
Should this work?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
James
