Good idea, Steve, but the metadata in pre-v7 versions will only install in English.
>From the 6.3 Release notes: "...*To use AR System with the Unicode Database Option to support multiple languages using a shared database, you must install an English version of AR System server before you install multi-language AR System servers. The reason you must install the English version first is because of the system forms that are auto-generated by the AR System server the first time it starts. Fields on these forms must be in a character set that can be understand by all languages. If the system forms are not loaded into the AR System server, the server does not work properly. 7-bit ASCII, the English version, is included in all languages. As a result, users must install the English server first..."* So the procedure is to install in English first, then go back and add the Japanese language pack. I've tried it both ways anyway. The server is pretty bare - no A/V or firewall. The only thing that might be an issue is the .NET 3.0 framework, but that seems like it would only potentially conflict with the Mid-Tier, and I'm not using that.
