Alternatively, you could set up additional Business Objects universes to report
against the non-ITSM applications. We actually started out that way – using
BOXI reports for our home grown applications, and then we purchased BMC
Analytics and only installed the ITSM Universe on our own BOXI server. Right
now we probably have about five different BOXI universes pointing to various
parts of the ARSystem database. Of course, the caveat is that we have a
fully-licensed BOXI environment, and don’t use the one provided by BMC.

It’s better to segregate the data between the applications unless your home
grown applications really do have something to do with ITSM. In our case, we
have mission critical business applications that run on Remedy that have
nothing to do with the I.T. department or each other. Separate universes and
on the Remedy side, separate permissions let them do what they need to do
without having ITSM interfere with their work.

You can extend the BO Universe to report on any table in the AR System
database. You can also create joins between other data sources and the AR
System tables. You can not independently report on external data sources
without violating the OEM agreement that gets you Business Objects with BMC
Analytics.

Out of the Box, Analytics has a pre-built universe to report on Service Desk,
Asset, Change, CMDB, SLM, SRM.

It looks like from BMC's pages that this can only generate reports for ITSM
applications. Is that correct, or can it be used to report on anything on the
ARS server?

Hi

Quick Question: I have heard there is another reporting tool (for use with
Remedy) from Business Objects that is preferred by many over Crystal Reports.
What is this called? I have forgotten...

Does anyone have experience with it and could tell me if there are great
advantages of using it?

Regards
Trond
