A little more information might be helpful - it's unclear whether you're
talking about group names in the Group form or in CTM:Supoprt Group. The OOB
behavior when you create a support group in ITSM is that the system will create
a corresponding permission group in the system Group form. The system
generates a new ID for each new permission group created and names the group
the same as the ID. So, you may create a Support Group named
Company->Org->Group Name, but the system will generate a permission group named
something like 100000008 with that as the ID.

There is no problem having different groups with the same name so long as you
keep in mind that a group is fully qualified not just by the name, but by the
company, org and name together (or by Support Group ID which is always unique).
If you want to use support groups names independent of the company they belong
too, then you will want to ensure they are unique, probably by establishing
naming convention that includes information in the name that will help make it
unique and identify what company or organization it belongs to.

When sending notifications to a group from within a Notify action, the group ID
must be used.

Is that answering any of your questions?

Subject: Group Names

**
Hi All
i have a very basic question in ITSM.
group notifications, do they use the group id or the group name? we have an
issue where one of my colleagues wants to put the group names the same as group
id for example if the group id is 1234 he has named the groups 1234 as well,
although the Long Group Name is set properly for example Company->Org->Group
Name. This is the name that shows up in the Assigned Group field. The other
problem is that he has named two groups the same for different companies.
for example Company1->Org->Finance and Company2->Org->Finance.
We are not using Multi-tenancy at the moment and it does not matter if people
from one company can see incidents raised by the second company.

My question is: what is the accepted wisdom for naming groups in ITSM ( we are
using v7.1) and will this group naming scheme work for notifications.

Many thanks

Shafqat Ayaz
