Rod,

You may also get this error when you have certain other applications that
also run on the same web server as the mid-tier application server. These
are applications like RKM, SLM, etc.

Is there any other application (I suspect it could be SLM) that starts the
web server?

Joe

Subject: Re: Remedy 7.5 Patch 4 Mid-Tier won't start

Hi Jarl,

Thanks for the link. It helps a little with our understanding of
what's happening.

No we don't have several versions running on this server. We tried to keep
things very simple with this install. Just took Server 2003, enabled IIS 6,
installed the SQL 2005 client and then off we went with the 7.5 patch 4
install. We installed most of the components and then went straight onto AIE
which unfortunately is now integrated in a massive install with lots of CMDB
stuff. We got a few errors in this part of the install but they seemed to
relate to the fact that we weren't installing all the CMDB core components.
Other then that it has been a pretty smooth install with the exception of
the complete absence of a working mid-tier.

We have a very similar server that has evolved from 7.1 through various
patches to 7.5 patch 4. That is working perfectly through all upgrades.
We're now using the mid-tier on this server to test our new server on the
web. A quick comparison does show a few differences. One notable difference
is that is using Tomcat 5.5.25 though the latest patch installed 5.5.28
without updating the config to point to it.
