AsburySteve, In reference to your comments:
"If you're a Right Wing Tunnel Vision Person NOT willing to Change, or admit you even MIGHT be wrong, then YES, asking you to be Reasonable WOULD turn you Off!" Did you even bother to read my post "A Liberal's Liberal On Rent
Control" before you started to pontificate again? If not, cool your
jets a bit and give it a shot. If you did, then reread the last two
paragraphs about folks not willing to admit being wrong. I'll take liberal
economist Krugman's analysis of rent control any day over your vague
"studies" from all over the Internet.
Based on all the capital letters you use, it's obvious that you are
passionate and angry about the issues: nothing wrong with passion and
anger--unless they become counterproductive.
Reason doesn't turn me off; scolding rants do. I am a Democrat
who has no qualms about taking on folks who give a bad name to progressive
politics. The fierce Ann Coulter, now a best-selling plagiarist, has lots of
fans and makes lots of money by preaching to her own right-wing choir;
however, she's no fool and doesn't think she'll change the minds of
the opposition with her pit bull (pit cow?) tactics.
You can preach to your own choir too, but don't fool yourself about winning
any converts. In several fell swoops, you've managed to attack the motives
of "the new people," "Stand Up for Asbury," "AP Action," the gay
population, and the Jews "who are running Asbury Park" and whose "Money Trail goes all the way back to
Since you're so fond of cliches, consider this one: "You can catch more
flies than with vinegar."
Regarding:
"By the way, you helped to PROVE that Rent Control's successful
with that Article from the NY Times!"
Take a reading comprehension
course!
Regarding:
Asbury Park has been my home since 1966 (thirty years
before your messianic arrival), so in my book, you're one of the "new people";
and if experience counts for anything, I'm think I'm better at judging the motives floating around town than you
are.
Bottom line: My concern is not rent control, gentrification,
racism, or any of the myriad other issues you glibly throw together. These
are social problems whose solutions will demand intellectual rigor,
not firebranding. Your rhetoric does nothing but give liberalism a
bad name and helps to defeat the causes which, despite it all, I believe
you really do care about.
