Well, also when using VTAM and communicating to, these days, a 3270 emulator facility as what is described as "non-SNA" - to which I like to add clarity by adding "*pre*-SNA", in effect, you allocate a "device address" by means of the CUADDR operand of a VTAM LOCAL statement in the "Local non-SNA" major node stored in the partitioned data set identified by the VTAMLST DD-statement.
