They (channel4.com) do send out emails for their mailinglists.

As an example, one of my employers has a newsletter mailinglist of more
than 9000 subscribers, I currently let that handle via the mail-server
of the ISP though, but some organisations (Like e.g. channel4.com) send
it out themselves, I can imagine them getting listed on some blacklists.
