That future versions will at least be tested against an Asterisk code base before being released - this version might work, but at least we know that future versions will continue to work. I know that if I upgrade my Polycom firmware sometime in the future that it will *continue* to work. > I contend that my point remains relevant. But if it works with ABE, then by association it should work with the open-source code base since ABE is based off of the open-source version. We're talking the SIP channel here, and I only know of one person who is actively working on the SIP channel - and he doesn't work at Digium - thus any changes to the SIP channel go into the open-source version, and if those changes are wanted in ABE, they must be pulled from there (as opposed to the other way around). Oh and on this point: 1. You'll likely have to be an authorized Digium reseller to get access to Polycom's firmware How is this any different than the other phones? You need to have a Cisco account to be able to get the firmware from them - and I don't currently see a place to download the Polycom firmware from their website, so I'm not sure what is changing here. And, whether ethical or not, people don't seem to have a problem obtaining the firmware for phones anyways. Heck, I think the wiki lists a website that is distributing the Polycom firmware. -- Leif Madsen. http://www.leifmadsen.com Astricon 2005 - Anaheim, CA October 12-14 http://www.astricon.net
