Ya, but at some point, one needs to be able to trust that a SIP phone will be able to talk to a SIP PBX. If I go down to geeks-r-us and pick up a PC and router, I'm not going to get very far if I insist on seeing the results of interoperability testing. Those things are expected to be reasonably compliant enough that they can be reasonably expected to work reasonably well together . . . within reason . . . Still, SIP is young, yet, and full of opportunities for misunderstanding. It's certainly not a *bad* thing that they're working with Digium, I just can't get too excited about it yet, because it doesn't significantly change the status quo for folks who want to source the phones on their own and integrate them with the open source version of Asterisk.
