Hi guys,

I have been lurking on this mailing list for a bit, but have not had a
chance to really try anything myself yet. I eventually want to get
asterix installed at home. But as an initially step
I want to first just get my feet wet by getting a voip line and
hooking it up to a voip adaptor using SIP or IAX2. The main use would
be make cheap overseas calls to UK and India.

I am looking at getting a DID from unlimitel.ca in the KW area. The
one thing that is confusing me after doing some research (googling,
etc), is how exactly does NAT impact the providers we have in Ontario.
voip-info and other sites left it as a general statement that you
might run into NAT'ing issues with SIP and IAX.

So can anyone using unlimitel tell me what kind of NAT'ing issues to
expect with IAX2 and SIP and is the workaround as simple opening up a
port to the voip adaptor.
Also, what security implications does this have, ie. can the voip
adaptor be hacked since it is exposed on the Internet ?

thanks,
Shuchit
