I have put two in place. I really liked two of the features. The box
will take both IAX and PSTN calls, as well if the IAX is not available
it will place calls through the PSTN port. I liked these features
because it allowed me to experiment with VoIP at home more easily.
One box I put in place gave me nothing but grief. The box wouldn't
detect the DTMF from the phone. It would for some digits but not others,
In fact it really depended on the sequence. For example pressing '4'
alone would work but after other digits it would not. It could take
multiple presses of a digit to get it recognized. I RMA'ed that unit and
received another that seems to work better but eventually ended up the
same way.
The other box was attached to a PBX in my business partner's home and it
had none of these problems.
Both, however, had bad sound quality and lots of echo. The start of
inbound calls often had alot of white noise. During a call the first
syllable of a sentence (i.e. after a period of silence) was often muted.
It is still in use with this bad quality, it's worse than cell phone
quality, but usable.
I tried putting QoS on the router to fix problems but nothing worked. I
also tried the various supported codecs and none seemed to be a lot
different.
My next step is to try a Polycom phone at home to see if it is any
better.
