I use unlimitel with SIP and IAX.  SIP is more painful than IAX, I
think that's a pretty generally accepted fact.

I had a customer travelling to China so I got him a VP320I from X2N. 
I set it up with Unlimitel (you have to order an IAX account
specifically) and it worked really well.  My customer has plugged it
in at a few hotels and offices and all but one have worked without
tweaking.  The one that didn't work was an office that uses a fairly
complex private WAN with lots of firewalls throughout so I'm not
really surprised.

The phone is not nearly the same quality as an Aastra, Polycom or
Cisco.  It's a consumer device for sure.  The price is very reasonable

I used the unlimited local plan from Unlimitel which included
voicemail.  That's probably not applicable to you if you're using it
for overseas dialing.

As always, mileage may vary but that's my experience for what it's worth.
