This is a perfect example of why it helps to understand dialplan when you
are debugging a GUI.

Take the snippet of extensions.conf that is executed under both scenarios
and execute it with 'core set verbose 10' set in the console.  Then put the
configs and the debug output on pastebin.ca and refer us to the URL.

I suspect your GUI is creating invalid or inconsistent dialplan logic, but I
doubt there is anything wrong with Asterisk.  It's just doing what it's been
told to do.
