Chuck,
I have no actual experience in using them, I've just seen them at a product fair last summer from a Canadian wholesaler I deal with, but Digi (www.digi.com) makes some products that sound like what you're looking for.

They have a product - Wi-Point 3G - that does exactly as you suggest, drop in a suitable data card from your favourite Cellular company, and they act as a 802.11b/g access point/router.

From my conversation with the Digi rep, these products are available in
Canada.

Regards,
Doug.

Subject: [on-asterisk] 3G Routers for Rogers or other Canada wide provider?

I keep seeing 3G Routers popping up in the US market place but haven't seen anything in Canada. Does anyone know of any in the Canadian Marketplace (Rogers preferred)? Anyone have any experience?

I want to share a connection with about 10-15 computers via a wireless B/G.

Does anyone know if a service like this would support VoIP (SIP)?

As well, it appears that these work using a laptop card (PC Card?)

Can I put in a SIM card from a phone with a data plan it it?

Any suggested hardware? (DD-WRT!?!)

I currently use Roger's Portable Internet but finding a signal can be problematic at different locations.

Regards,

Chuck
