Hi Chuck,

I have setup a router from Dlink which does what you want, I had it
running with Telus's EVDO network and it works well.

I am sure there are other manufacturers who might have similar offers.

Yes, you can use a sim chip from a phone with a data plan on it, but the
sim chip needs to go into the pcmcia card, the pcmcia card then slides
into the wireless router, you then configure the wireless router to talk
to your cellular network via the pcmcia card.

You will need to make sure that the pcmcia card or similar is compatible
with the router you are planning to use it with.
