Just thought I would let you know that I have an ALIX1 in production using
the i586 image and I have had no problems. The ALIX1 has a video and
keyboard port so I didnt have the same console problem. I will be using the
ALIX2 and ALIX3 from now on so I will need to perform an extra step.

I am assuming that I will build and insert the flash, boot the system up on
the network, discover the allocated IP Address from the DHCP server, SSH in,
change the console (using a faster speed than 19200) in grub and then reboot
and away I go as before.

Would the Net5501 image be more appropriate as it already sets up the
console port?

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the suggestion Kristian;

I will give that a try.. I was thinking of trying the Wrap image, think
that would work?

As the WRAP is discontinued, I am seeking a solution for an application to
support a couple of IP phones at a remote office off an Asterisk box; What's
best practice here with astlinux; OPENVPN bridge/tunnel? Can it all be done
from the .rc file.

Kevin

Kevin,

  If you wait long enough you should see the getty running on your
serial port. Unless you add a "console=" line to grub you won't see
output from the kernel booting on your serial port. Try this:

console=ttyS0,19200n8
