Thanks Tim, mmmm might have to rethink my VOIP solution if I'm to move forward with asterisk 1.4. I've currently got a remote office with AstLinux (Asterisk 1.2), TDM400P, 1 x PSTN(failover, local presence), 1 x TDM cordless phone and a few rfc sip terminals. The remote office AstLinux server is connected to a head office AstLinux box via IAX2 (over a standard DSL service 1.5/256, DSL2 or 2+ not available - sub exchange issue). The head office AstLinux server is connected to a NEC SV7000 PBX via SIP extns. If a cordless phone in the remote office calls a SIP extension in head office, Asterisk transcodes PCM to g729 on the remote office and then g729 to g711 on the head office server which then forwards RTP to the SV7000 SIP terminal or the SV7000 SIP TDM gateway. This works really well, (have had no complaints about latency due to transcoding etc) I know I don't need to upgrade, but I really like the idea of being at the latest and greatest. eg new features etc This uClibc g729 issues is a bit of a pain, but I empathise with the developers who have no control over this problem. It would be nice if Digium came to the party and complied a Asterisk 1.4 uClibc g729 codec.

The *only* case where a license is required is if transcoding occurs. Passing RTP packets or playing prerecorded files does not require a license.
