No it really doesn't help. The legal code to compile g729 modules that would work with Astlinux are not available for download publicly. Someone at Digium would need to create the proper binaries. Digium only distributes the modules in binary format. If there is some code that compiles codec_g729.so it's from a non-legal source and will not be placed into a repository that is supported by Astlinux.
Again, if you could post a specific link to show us where this is, I'd at least look a little deeper.
