This is how I generate my Atom 0.3 feed, using the popular Movable Type program:

<content type="text/html"

         xml:lang="en"
         xml:base="<$MTBlogURL encode_xml="1"$>">
  <$MTEntryBody encode_xml="1"$>
</content>

How's that relevant wrt. type='XHTML'? If you doubt the robustness of concatenation with XHTML, why wouldn't you keep using "entity-encoded HTML"?

(FWIW, I don't believe the pace removes the telescoping divs issue. I predict the div as part of the envelope is unintuitive to the ViewSourceClan, who will assume everything in the Atom namespace is part of the envelope and everything in the XHTML namespace is part of the payload.)
