Re: YouTube - Content Creators: What's new?
@Zoren: AGreed, but wouldn't the sensable solution be a scorched-Earth approach to what Youtube Kids should be? I.E. Youtube Kids means specifically children under the age of 13, so this isn't even the reasonably family-friendly stuff we're talking about.
1. Only content allowed on Youtube for Kids would be already-syndicated childrens programming, and amateur content that has gone through human review without one bit of automation. And to spare Google the financial burden excuse, the human review process would be initiated via a nominal fee paid by the content creator, which also allows them to really think about whether or not it's worth posting the content in the kids section.
Does it mean less frequent content? Absolutely. But does it mean an actual safer Youtube? Abso-friggin-lutely.
But there are too many videos to human review, you say. Doesn't have to be that way. I'm sure if you cut out automation from the kids section entirely, more than half the videos would be going along for the ride 6feet underground if, say, they shuttered Youtube for Kids during the conversion process and found all these exploitative Youtube videos had leaked into the platform. After Youtube Kids's hypothetical relaunch, the scourge of videos flowing in would be significantly less, as they'd all be going through human review. Kids can rewatch the new content in the meantime, or go outside.
I doubt Youtube actually do this, though, because well, machine learning.
