The impression I got when trying to read the Nightside novels is that they're a lot simpler, by and largee Some very creepy dark fantasy elements, but a writing style that rubbed me personally the wrong way. I think I heard the main character say something like "this is the Nightside" in an attempt to scare his first client something like six times. It has admittedly been awhile, but the writing didn't grab me. In my memory, it has a trying-too-hard feel. "Ooh, look at how scary this Nightside place is. See how scary it is? See? See? Listen to me! Real scary!" And if you have to do that as a character or an author, you're going to really put me off. -Show me how scary it is. Don't just tell me.
