Oh, I should have mentioned that my comparison of digital with analogue
was done with a temporary linear supply (a lab supply). I haven't tried
listening to the analogue outs with the switcher yet.

Anyway, could it be that the other components you are used to are
"peaky" (raised treble)? (I don't know that Yamaha.)
