I think it is called "careful" purchasing. Almost without exception I have bought my hi-fi 2nd hand (used) - at this end of the market people TEND to take care of what they have. That and a good inspection / audition tends to flush out the dealers / merchants.
$6,000 = £4,000 - probably £2,500 used - so within reasonable limits - although I acknowledge that is a relative statement. Just need to figure whether to go active (ala meridian) or passive (ala Sonus) - still not clear what amp to put with a passive setup though. The WAF factor clearly leans towards the Meridians!
