You can't hear phase. You can hear time delay. When I set my subwoofer to 180 deg (out of phase), it sounds better because it accounts for the time delay between the sub and the mains. If any of you have a continuosly variable phase control on your sub, try disconnecting your mains and listen only to the sub, slowly changing the phase control. See if you hear any change. I can't.
