This reminds me of a recent visit to the eye doctor. I've never worn
glasses (I'm 30 now), but for the last year or so, I've felt like I
can't make out far away signs as well as I have in the past, especially
while driving. Well, the doctor said my vision was still 20/15, and he
thought I was being kind of a perfectionist, but he wrote me a
prescription. It definitely made a difference. Anyway, the point is
that most people don't even realize their vision or hearing are getting
worse, until it becomes a nuisance or bothersome to those around them. A
funny thing happened at my work after I got the glasses, when I was
talking to another guy who had never worn glasses. He said he didn't
need them. Well, he put my new pair on, and immediately he does a Joey
Lawrence-Blossom era "Whoa", and goes on to tell me how much a
difference it actually makes. Maybe audiophiles are also
"perfectionists" when it comes to hearing, as well.
