Based on personal experience with ripping audio CDs, I can testify that
this is not the case, at least not with my CD-ROM drives and my CDs.
While they often correctly read the CD without errors, about equally
often errors occur. These can *sometimes* be corrected by EAC, reading
in far slower than real time (which an audio CD player of course could
not do), but more often they do not get corrected. You can be certain
whether or not an error has occurred in the rip by matching a checksum
against the internet.

On the other hand while they certainly exist I doubt that these errors
are significant for sound quality. Given that, say, half the time
there are zero errors, when there are errors the total number of wrong
bits is probably quite small. Since one track on a CD has 500,000,000
bits or so, if a few are wrong it's probably not a very big deal.
