As I previously mentioned, I feel that an active preamp is critical for
many/most amps out there today (not a cynical remark!).  The inputs of
most amps are expecting higher voltages than what most digital sources
w/volume controls are putting out there.

Because very high end companies like Wadia and dCS have done it without
being called "not high end".

Yep, never said that BNC or AES/EBU "reduced" jitter...the comment was
made in reference to "maintaining low jitter" (in other words, not
creating more jitter).  Using BNC allows you to have a "true 75ohm"
digital cable per the single-ended SPDIF specification, and AES/EBU
allows a "true 110ohm" digital cable.  Using RCA doesn't allow this
because the RCA connector itself is not true 74ohms.
