I think there is a misperception that rich people don't care about
saving money.

If your DAC has a word-clock output (Master), and you hook it into the
Transporter's word-clock input (Slave), you will have a system that is
far more "immune" than any SPDIF-based or AES/EBU-based system.  Many
high end companies such as dCS, EMMLabs, etc offer this type of
architecture.

Absolutely.  You could even argue that the Transporter is not a product
targeted at the mass market as well.  It is positioned as an "audiophile
music server".
