And I posit that not all audiophiles who spend money on expensive gear are "rich". > the $2000 price of a Transporter barely gets into the budget zone of > readers of The Abolute Sound, or most Stereophile items. I'll agree that whether they spend $2000 or $1500 on something is possibly not a big deal for them; however, if they feel $2000 buys them something that contains things (eg. a DAC) they are not going to use, they will think they are overpaying and will look for something else. They'll come back to it if there's nothing else available. > The point is that the OP was hoping for a lower priced, less feature > rich Transporter-lite. Why wouldn't it? You can argue that it might increase SD's overhead to manage having to market a 3rd product in the their product lineup, but that would be a weak argument if there was a legitimate market for a DAC-less Transporter. > Now to speculate, take the Transporter knob and one display, a half inch > > thick with wifi and two way feedback, and that would be a great > remote. > Battery power, charged like a power toothbrush, and it might sell well > > at $300 each > But the target market for this type of device would want 35ps jitter specification at the SPDIF output, and this would require a lot more than a fancy knob...it would require everything that is in the Transporter minus the DAC, the DAC's power supply, and the analog output circuit. So it would definitely be above a $300 retail pricepoint...the power supplies alone would put it over $300... -- PhilNYC Sonic Spirits Inc. http://www.sonicspirits.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PhilNYC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=837 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28246 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
