They will probably ask what you're using for external attenuation before the power amp, since that's the recommended setup for lowest noise floor, and other reasons. It's not normally a good idea to use the preamp volume control (in player settings|audio) in lieu of analog attenuation, however you might try specifying Xdb there and seeing what happens (where X allows you to listen with digital volume at max 100/100). It will activate DAC's built in attenuation, and listening at max cancels the software attenuation. There are reports of preamp volume and digital volume not sounding so great when used together, which is why I suggested max volume.
