Just a comment on my experience:

I use EAC, dBpowerAmp (latest R12), Foobar2000, Mediamonkey and the
Godfather. They all have their strengths and sometimes one will work
when the others won't.

Yesterday I tried ripping a seedee with dBpowerAmp and it would not get
the last track. EAC ripped it no problem. Generally I use EAC (in secure
mode) for ripping.

I like Foobar2000 for mass conversions but now mainly use dBpowerAmp
Batch Converter (pro) because it is more graceful if it encounters a
problem. Batch Converter will usually continue on to the next file
while Foobar2000 just quits (usually in the middle of the night, of
course).

I keep and catalogue my albums with Mediamonkey since it is flexible
enough for classical music and has a nice interface. But, there are
times when editing the tags that only the Godfather will do.
