Anything physically placed on a component may alter the vibration patterns in that component. (So it is not "magic") It may even alter magnetic fields generated from within that component. Anything electrical put in any circuit (interconnects, speaker, etc) can effect the sound simply by altering the impedance, and for high frequency connections affecting the reflections. Common for most of these tweaks is that the exact effect (if any) will depend entirely on the system it is added to.
