OK, my CD player sounds better than my Squeezebox/Shek Dac setup, but I listen to the SB more. The convenience and ease of browsing do it for me, and the wife loves it too.
Ergo (slight logical jump) I need a better wireless streaming audio solution. Main options and issues: Transporter. Problem is that I can't listen to it before I buy, and there are none in the UK. I think it's pretty ugly, and so does the wife, but... SB+. Bit of a leftfield option, but I like the fact that it's UK-made and looks nicer than the TP. Plus I can listen before I buy and/or return it if unhappy. Shame about the 24/96 and knob, though. DAC. Basically discounted; I quite fancy my SB3/Shek for the kitchen system, so this offers no discount on the TP, as I'd need a new SB3 anyway. Further matters: I could buy a TP from Switzerland - they are CHF 2100, which is well under a grand UK (2.4:1, so well under £900; about $1,700 actually). Flights are only £100. Comments about duty will be filed under "meh". If I can't get a demo in the UK, I might as well buy from overseas. Advice reqested: How happy are TP owners now? There have been reviews that say it sounds really good, but not truly great. Sean is saying that it sounds better than anything else, but I'd like to hear from owners. Now the new buy gloss is gone, how happy are you? Has anyone independent done a TP/SB+ comparison? Do we actually think the TP will go up in price in the UK? Is a Switzerland purchase genuinely bonkers? (Please preface any replies with a minute's silence for the death of English cricket...)
