The Behringer has a built-in phantom-powered mic preamp, so no separate
preamp is required. It's designed for use with the Behringer ECM8000
measurement mic, which cost me all of $40. My mic stand was $30 at Mars
Music.

However, inexpensive has to show somewhere. While the Behringer ECM8000
generic published response curve is pretty good (within a dB or 2),
ECM8000's that have been individual measured show up to 10dB deviation
in the treble. Rather than spending $50 to have mine calibrated I just
purchased a $200 pre-calibrated measuring mic (a LinearX M31) for use
with my $200 E-mU 0404 USB sound card. There, I just spent more than
the Behringer EQ AND the ECM8000!

The primary benefit of room correction is in the bass, say below 500Hz.
If you limit the EQ to below that, it doesn't matter what the ECM8000 is
doing at 8kHz.

Regards,
Kim
