IMHO, the slimserver/TP platform is remarkably open compared to most consumer products. To meet my requirements, I have changed the web and devices interfaces/menus (CustomBrowse), used my choice of music librarian (OrangeCD) to control playback and altered the information about what's playing (MusicInfoScreen).
