I'm also running my SB3 through an external DAC (Behringer DEQ2496), and I've found while my preamp benefits from an hour or two warm up time, the SB3 seems to sound fine as soon as it's switched on. I leave the SB3 off (AC supplied via a power conditioner which is normally switched off) rather than on standby. When I turn it on it needs to re-connect with the wireless router but this only takes 10-15 seconds and happens automatically.
Be sure to try your Rhapsody 30-day trial, I'm on day 8 and have been finding some very good sounding recordings. 192kb MP3 actually sounds quite nice through a good system.
