If it was meant to be a test of which standard is better - CD or vinyl
- it wasn't particularly meaningful.  Records are mastered differently
than CDs, and (because of surface noise) are trivial to distinguish
from them.  So if you prefer the vinyl version of something, there are
many possible reasons which are independent of the intrinsic sound
quality of the medium.

What I think would be a more interesting test would be to record a
record using high quality digital gear, encode the recording to
redbook, and then see if anyone can distinguish the recording from the
actual record.  If not, digital wins, game over.  This would have to be
done in a clever way, but I think it's possible.
