Well guys, once again I disagree with you all ;-) I don't see any evidence that the LP/CD versions are different masters. From what I read they are the same Analog recorded and Analog mastered recordings. (The material for testing is listed on the page).
What they tested isn't the medium and it's not needed to test that because everyone agrees that vinyl is not as good as CD (like surface noise etc.) No, what they wanted to test is analog vs digital. If you take an all-digital master and put it on vinyl you defeat any advantage of the vinyl medium and it will loose big time. But when you put that analog master on vinyl you get the whole original analog signal that was never in the digital domain. Yes, plus some noise but those that prefer analog try to live with that reduced quality because even with that, in their opinion, it's still far better than digital. The reason they "didn't need to fill in the forms" is that, in their opinion, the LP was so clearly the winner over CD. You don't have to agree with that (but if you weren't there how can you tell?) but it's what they say on that page. I've been in this discussion before and yes I like analog but I'm digital now. I was present at a comparison test many years ago and agreed that the vinyl sounded way better but this was the era of the early days of CD and things have improved for CD since then so I couldn't tell now. I believe that page though. Problem is that I'm not a fan of the genre ;-) Also interresting is that they also listened to direct-cut vinyl and prefer that over everything else. This is performance->mic's->pre-amps->mixer->vinyl-cutter. So no tape no mastering, nothing like that. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53355 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
