Darren,

We do not necessarily differ with regards to standards of quality. Let
me explain:

First a bit of my purchasing history is in order. When I bought my
Transporter I did not own any other Slim Devices products not did I own
an external DAC, so the Transporter seemed like a nice simple, albeit
somewhat expensive, way to get into the world of music streaming WHILE
maintaining high end sound.

If I had owned an external DAC I most likely would have gone with a SB3
and in fact, I now have two SB3s and one SBR - all of which are
connected to some type of external DAC (two go to headphone amps with
built in DACs and the other goes to a Marantz A/V receiver with a built
in DAC.

In your case you can always add an external DAC to your SB3 at any time
and right now external DACs seem to be a very hot item with many
manufacturers introducing cheaper and better sounding DACs. So much so
that it won't be long before a SB3/DAC combo (with balanced analog
outputs) costing half of what a Transporter costs will sound as good, if
not better than, the Transporter.
