I would go with morris minor. Get a SB3 and you can test everything. When you feel comfortable with it buy a transporter and use the SB3 with some nice little 2.1 Boombox somewhere else in the house.
I think nearly everybody here started with one SB3 or Duet and got more and more Squeezeboxes when time goes buy.
