You could be onto something here! - The case for audiophile grade chip amps is growing by the day! The class A/AB SS and Tube manufacturers are probably not in agreement with me on this, but the "amp on a board" class of products is getting huge and they sound fantastic! I have a class T amp(though with modified caps that are almost as large as the amp itself) that fits in the palm of my hand. It sounds better than anything I have heard. It doesnt make 500wpc but who cares! I does make 45wpc into a 4ohm load and it plays clean right up to clipping when its on chip circuit protection kicks in. It will drive my maggies with no problems. As far as simplicity goes there are no wires in the box at all! (except for the speaker jumpers). A complete amp/preamp on a board. That amp could easily be stuffed in a speaker, and why not? You could have a biamped system, with double the power (90 wpc). No need for speaker wire runs. This is dangerous thought process! Tweaking is one thing. A major project like that one is another!
