It is fairly trivial to design a balanced output from a single-ended output. It is a matter of impedance matching and it is not necessary to have a inverting/non-inverting signal to gain the advantages of balanced circuit design. I would imagine they didn't do it on the Touch because of space rather than cost and the marketing segment that it is aimed at.
The volume control thing is interesting and once I actually get a Touch I'll design an amplifier with the necessary gain structure. You could also implement a peak-level detector that would mute the amp with a signal @ full blast. That would be a safety thing so you don't shoot a woofer cone across the room and scare the neighbors. -- Kevin Haskins ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kevin Haskins's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30729 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74715 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
